This not to be ignored border town is having a major revival from its glory days of tequila bars, mechanical bull riding, and endless amount of shots.

Tijuana and specifically Avenida Revolucion have cleaned up its act. In the last 5 years, there has been a stunning amount of development and good design popping up all over the city.  This past Monday a fellow design buff and friend of mine from the San Diego Architecture foundation invited me to join her for a day of art and architecture in Tijuana. Just 15 min from downtown San Diego to the pedestrian path it’s an easy day trip. We shopped, visited galleries, and admired the bits of design popping up all over the city.

My full day trip guide and advice for crossing the border is coming soon but for now, I thought I would entice you to give this neighboring city another chance, with some work from T38 Studio an architecture firm taking a risk and giving Tijuana a chance to be taken seriously.

A living room with a view. New housing developments are sprouting up all over the city.

A new 5 apartment building just broke ground.

What do you think of the new look of TJ?
